About Minmi

The Town of MinmiMinmi is a western suburb of Newcastle NSW. It was an important coal mining centre in the second half of the 19th century under the ownership of coal baron John Brown. At its zenith in the early 1900s it had 11 hotels and 6,000 residents but the closure of the Back Creek mines in 1924 and the open cut mine in 1951 brought this era to an end.

MinmiChurchMinmiChurch2Minmi almost became a ghost town but the opening of the F3 freeway, land rezonings and new housing estates have brought a new lease on life for this historic town.

The Magster purchased the old historic school building property on the hill in 1969 and has been there ever since.
